Saving Alex's 'broken' heart
When Alex gave birth to her twin daughters, joy turned to fear when she suffered a rare condition known as Takotsubo cardiomyopathy - or 'broken heart' syndrome.
But thanks to the support of donors, our highly-trained teams worked seamlessly together to provide the complex, world-class care she needed to save her life and bring her home to her family.
Alex spent six days in our Intensive Care Unit, on a state-of-the-art life support machine that was purchased with funds donated by supporters like you. She then made a slow but full recovery and will soon celebrate the twins' first birthday.
